Sort After has returned to racing in smart form this season and remains the $3.90 favourite in 2017 Ipswich Cup betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Benzini ($4.40), Jumbo Prince ($5.50) and Self Sense ($10).

Will Sort After justify favouritism and win the 2017 Ipswich Cup, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

Benzini ($4.40)

Kiwi raider Benzini has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time without posting a win, but he will appreciate a step back in class into this field and should prove extremely hard to beat. Resuming for second in the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) in his homeland before running fourth in the Group 3 Wellington Gold Cup (2000m), the Tale Of The Cat gelding has run fourth in both the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) and Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2200m) since arriving in Queensland. Benzini should find a good position in transit from barrier 10 and his class could simply prove too good for this Ipswich Cup field on Saturday afternoon.

Jumbo Prince ($5.50)

Leading local Jumbo Prince has posted a number of typically-smart results this season and is a live chance in Ipswich Cup betting markets. Dead-heating the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) on April 8th, the Outback Prince entire progressed to fourth in the Listed Tails Stakes (1600m) and third in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Members’ Handicap (1600m), but failed to handle the extremely heavy going at Eagle Farm on May 27th and finished towards the tail of the field in the Premier’s Cup. Drawn ideally in barrier 4, Jumbo Prince has the notable advantage of Jeff Lloyd in the saddle for his run in the Ipswich Cup.

Kaiser Franz ($18)

Kaiser Franz will relish a soft track on Saturday, is a winner amongst stronger company than this, this winter and is arguably over the Ipswich Cup odds at his current quote. Hugging the rails to storm home and win the Premier’s Cup, the Savabeel gelding failed to handle the good track at Doomben last weekend and finishing tenth in the Brisbane Cup. His breeding suggests that he could very well be at his best in the Ipswich Cup and he is more than worth consideration for an each-way bet, or as a fold in a trifecta.
