Strong 2017 Ipswich Cup Field Likely

An outstanding 2017 Ipswich Cup field appears likely, following the release of strong nominations for Saturday’s feature race in Queensland.

Benzini has been a strong and consistent performer through the 2017 Brisbane Winter Carnival without returning to winning form, but should prove extremely tough to beat when he takes his place in the Ipswich Cup field.

The Kiwi raider returned to Brisbane for a credible fourth in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben on May 27th, before repeating that effort to run a close fourth in the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (2200m) last weekend.

While charged with carrying topweight, Benzini’s class is sure to count for plenty and he is the horse to beat in Ipswich Cup nominations.

Jumbo Prince has also returned to racing in terrific form this season and adds plenty to the class of the likely 2017 Ipswich Cup field.

Winner of the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) at Toowoomba on April 6th, the Outback Prince entire finished fourth in the Listed Tails Stakes (1600m) and third in the Listed Tattersall’s Members’ Handicap (1600m), but failed to fire in the Premier’s Cup last time out.

The five-year-old should relish the conditions of this race, but will carry the second-heaviest weight at 58kgs.

Several interstate raiders at set to be confirmed in the 2017 Ipswich Cup field, including Sort After and Tessastock.

Sort After has returned to racing in excellent form this time in and should prove extremely tough to beat in the Ipswich Cup.

Fourth in the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1500m) on April 6th, the Wanted mare was last seen finishing second in the Listed Centaurea Stakes (2019m) on May 20th.

The mare will carry only 54.5kgs should she accept into the 2017 Ipswich Cup field.

Tessastock will undoubtedly face her biggest test to date in the 2017 Ipswich Cup field, but flew home to win the Scott McMahon Electricity Handicap (1800m) last time out.

The 2017 Ipswich Cup field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
