Sunshine Coast trainer John Zielke is pleased with the condition of Worthy Cause, and is confident his stable star will prove tough to beat in Saturday’s featured 2016 Ipswich Cup (2150m) in Queensland.

Worthy Cause has been a strong and consistent performer for Zielke through his entire racing career so far; returning this time for a close second in the Listed Sunshine Coast Ascot Handicap (1200m) on April 23rd.

Progressing to fourth in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) a fortnight later, the Choisir entire has since finished fifth in each of the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) and the Listed Wayne Wilson Mile (1600m) at the re-opening of Eagle Farm last weekend.

Having originally planned to send the four-year-old for a spell with a view towards the Melbourne Spring Carnival, Zielke told AAP he is confident Worthy Cause will relish a step-up in distance to the 2016 Ipswich Cup and can overcome the small field confirmed.

“When I saw there were only 10 original nominations I said to the owners we might as well push on for a start,” Zielke said.

“We will still have time to get him ready for the spring.

“He just hasn’t been able to win. Things have gone wrong and they happened again last Saturday when he was fifth in the Wayne Wilson Handicap.

“A lot of people have said he probably should have won. It has been the story of the entire campaign.

“One thing I don’t expect Worthy Cause to have any trouble with is the 2150 metres around Ipswich.”

Luke Dittman has partnered Worthy Cause in each of his four competitive starts this time, but Zielke revealed Bobby El-Issa will take the ride on the four-year-old in the Ipswich Cup.

Luke has had no luck on Worthy Cause and it might be a case of change of rider and change of luck,” he said.

Worthy Cause has posted an impressive five wins and eight minors through twenty-four career starts since first appearing on course competitively for Stuart Kendrick midway through 2014.
