Maurus remains an outright $2.45 favourite in 2016 Ipswich Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Dance Of Heroes ($5.50), Puccini and Worthy Cause; currently sharing the third line at $6 odds.

Will Maurus justify favouritism and win the 2016 Ipswich Cup or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Jumbo Prince ($8.50)

Classy local Jumbo Prince has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time, is weighted for success in the Ipswich Cup at 56.5kgs and drawn ideally in barrier 4. Claiming ten wins and a further eleven minors through thirty-three career starts so far, the Outback Prince entire clearly required a run when tenth in the Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) first-up on April 16th but responded with a strong performance for third in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m). Returning to winning form in the Listed Tattersall’s Club Members Handicap (1600m) on May 14th, Jumbo Prince has been unable to make much of an impact through his two most recent starts but will relish a step up in distance this weekend. The four-year-old undoubtedly offers punters the best value for money at current $8.50 odds.

2nd

Maurus ($2.45)

Consistent performer Maurus has been kept to a light winter campaign and will enjoy the conditions of the Ipswich Cup, but may require luck in transit after drawing the outside barrier. Placing second in the Ranvet BM92 (1500m) on February 20th, Maurus received a brief freshen-up after placing third in the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) a fortnight later. Having savaged the line for success in the Windsor Management Insurance Brokers Handicap (2200m) on April 20th, the Medicean gelding ran a handy fifth in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) on May 21st and will be partnered by veteran hoop Damian Browne this weekend.

3rd

Worthy Cause ($6)

Worthy Cause is another runner that should be right in the finish of the 2016 Ipswich Cup and will be tough to beat if he can handle a one week back-up from running fifth in the Listed Wayne Wilson Mile (1600m). Claiming five wins and a further eight minors through twenty-four career starts so far, the Choisir entire ran second in the Listed Sunshine Coast Ascot Handicap (1200m) on April 23rd; progressing to fourth in the Prime Minister’s Cup and fifth in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m) leading into his most recent effort.
